Project: Welney Pavilion (William Marshall Centre)

Duration: July 2013 – June 2016 (Concept thru to completion)

Brief: Replace existing pavilion with a new modular building

To remove the old pavilion (which was second hand 30 years ago) and replace with a new pavilion. The old building was in a poor state of repair and was replaced with a purpose designed modular building. The new building is bright, attractive and heated or cooled with air conditioning.

Originally the building was designed for the cricket club, however the local population are so happy with the new pavilion it is often used for other activities such as council meetings, table tennis and carpet bowls on a regular basis.

There is also a mother and baby group which is now regularly held in the new building as there is plenty of space for them to run around.

The project has been such a success there is also a move to re-establish football to the grounds.

The planning application was carried out by Ensen Design, and funding for the pavilion and sports centre, which has been a major project for local people over a number of years, came from WREN (the waste recycling charity), Sport England and the William Marshall Charity.

The William Marshall Centre features a striking fully functional clock tower to the ridge of the roof to add some character to the new building
